The teaching reform of《Mechanical Engineering Testing Technique》is taken as a case study in this paper, in which the classroom teaching trilogy and exercise after class trilogy are introduced to carry out the CDIO idea. The classroom teaching trilogy needs the blackboard writing teaching, the multimedia courseware and the scientific research project. The blackboard writing teaching is as the base to heritage the basic theory and concept of subject; the multimedia courseware is as the extension to increase the information and add new content; the scientific research project combined with engineering practice is as a case study to understand deeply the knowledge system, and then to realize the teaching effect of reinforcing foundation, broadening horizon and facing the future. The exercise after class trilogy refers to three aspects. (1) Homework exercise. It includes the basic and expanding homework exercise. The former indicates the homework in the textbook, while the later indicates that prospective subjects involving intelligent robot, internet of things et al are selected by students themselves and the research is reported in the type of multimedia courseware through which the students can be changed from passive learning to active learning. (2) Experimental training. The comprehensive experiment of mechanical parameters and virtual experiment of fault diagnose should be combined to make the experiment with engineering feature. (3) Three-grade project. Combining the specialty characteristics, students can choose a three-grade project, which is close to engineering, and solve some engineering problems by conceiving, designing and implementation to achieve the goal of exercise. Some projects of vibration attenuation of cab, multifunctional baby carriage and steelyard for the old are completed in the subject of 《Mechanical Engineering Testing Technique》and they are awarded in the innovation activity for university man. The teaching in the subject of 《Mechanical Engineering Testing Technique》faces some problems of theory abstraction, trivial content and experiment divorced from reality. However, the application of trilogy teaching method connects the teaching and engineering and cultivates the students’ engineering consciousness. The teaching is very effective.
