Abstract

Environmental Impact Assessment(EIA) has the characteristics of comprehensiveness, stronger timeliness, practicality and applicability, etc., the current Environmental Impact Assessment course mainly focuses on the teaching of relevant theories and methods, but lack of case teaching, especially lack of the cultivation of students' comprehensive practical ability. Based on CDIO engineering education concept, we reform the course teaching, and provide a real engineering environment which associates with theoretical study and engineering practice for students, promote their professional skills, team cooperation ability, critical thinking ability, comprehensive ability to solve the practical problems, and the cultivation of innovation ability along with learning professional basic theoretical knowledge. Highlights of reforming the course teaching and practice are as follows: (1) selection and update of the teaching content about theories and methods. Outstanding the important points, updating teaching content according to the latest release of laws, regulations and technical guidelines, and introducing the use of the related softwares; (2) screening and integration of the teaching case. Selecting typical case, combining with the theories and methods to explain, finally achieving mastery through a comprehensive study; (3) practice and exercise in the practice base. Practicing and working on compiling EIA reports by nearly two months in the practice bases on campus and off-campus in order to exercise the students' comprehensive engineering practice ability; (4) cultivation of student's self-study and presentation ability. Firstly, titles or tasks are arranged, such as the research progress of one aspect in environmental impact assessment, or introduction and application of one method or model, then let students prepare the tasks by reading relevant materials after class, finally students will be selected randomly to introduce; (5) construction of evaluation system. Establishing the evaluation index system to evaluate the effect of course teaching, and continuously improving the course teaching. Through the systematic study of the course, students can master the requirements and skills of compiling EIA report, and improve the ability of engineering practice and employment competitiveness.
