Exploration and Practice on Project Architecture with CDIO Initiative for Mechanitronics Engineering Undergraduate

Y. Shen (2015).  Exploration and Practice on Project Architecture with CDIO Initiative for Mechanitronics Engineering Undergraduate. 8.

In order to enable the electromechanical engineering undergraduates to train problem-solving in a real life context, improve the cultivating quality of electromechanical engineering talents, and meet the requirements and demands of the industries for attracting electromechanical engineers, it is necessary to explore and practice new project architecture for electromechanical engineering undergraduate based on CDIO initiative. First of all, we analyze the present curriculum architecture for electromechanical engineering undergraduate. In the present curriculum architecture, the teachers usually follow the given syllabuses to teach the knowledge to the students, give them assignments, arrange the experiments for them, and evaluate them by the examination with standard answer. This mode makes the students accept the knowledge passively and does not provide them with much more problem-solving chances in a real life. Second, according to the present situation and CDIO initiative, we revised the program of electromechanical engineering undergraduate. In new curriculum architecture, we shortened the theory study, and strengthened engineering practices. Therefore we constructed new project architecture including three level projects based on robot, which make the students experience product-system lifecycle: conceiving-designing-implementing-operating. The students can make and carry out the project programs according to the requirements of projects. After exploration and practice new project architecture on electromechanical engineering undergraduate in Chengdu university of Information Technology (CUIT), the electromechanical engineering undergraduates can apply different approaches to solve the problems of the industrial projects and get not only an overall view and understanding of the real engineering work, but also valuable real life experiences through these projects. Meanwhile, these projects enrich the teaching process and students’ teamwork activities and skills for future electromechanical engineers to work in labor market.
