Surendra Shrestha

Associate Professor (Civil & Environmental Engineering)
Biography

Surendra Shrestha is an engineering hydrologist with both ground and surface water modelling experience.  His professional interests range from surface water planning and management to stochastic ground water flow modelling.  His academic interest is in the development of easy-to-use tools that will aid in planning, designing, implementing and managing surface and ground water resources in an ecologically sustainable manner.

Surendra has worked with multi-disciplinary research teams in surface and ground water related projects.  While at Virginia, USA, he was involved with teams conducting research on topics ranging from urban hydrology to forested watershed hydrology to groundwater contamination.  At the East-West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, he was a part of the research team at the Environment and Policy Institute studying environmental impacts of water resources development projects in the Asia-Pacific region.  More recently, his involvement has been with academics, researchers and engineering professionals in mathematical modelling of built environments.

Surendra is an Associate Professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering team within the School of Engineering, Design & Built Environment and teaches into the broad area of water engineering.  He has served as an Associate Editor of the ASCE Journal of Hydrologic Engineering and a number of editorial and conference organising committees.  He is a Fellow of the Civil College of Engineers Australia and a Senior Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy.  He is also a Fellow of Badugulang, the Centre for Excellence in University Teaching & Learning at Western Sydney University.
